Factory Reset Palo Alto Firewall - Part VI

Two days back, I have missed to configure anything on the PA firewall. But I couldn’t remember the configuration stuff what I have done in my previous labs.

Therefore, to get a freshly PA, I’m going to set the PA into factory default settings. Following steps are proceeding to set the PA to reset the firewall.

  • admin@PA-VM> debug system maintenance-mode (yes)
    • Execute this command will stop the current session and reboot the PA into maintenance mode. Meantime you can see the message stopping PAN software: Wait until this thing gets completed. Don’t press any keys.
  • When firewall reboot, press Enter to continue maintenance mode.
  • Select Factory Reset and press Enter
    • Then you can see > Factory reset | > Advance as two options. By arrow keys you can select the option Factory reset, when you select it, it will go to advance mode because the selection is selected the advance option.
    • Make sure, when you select Factory reset, it won’t appear as highlighted. Then press enter to continue. This will take 3-4 minutes to complete. You can see the factory reset status progress here. In my case, neither errors nor issues reported.
  • Now you can access the PA with its default configuration mode. But sometimes, the firewall not loaded via web console. Restart the firewall at GNS3 sorted the issue.
